Hair FAQs and Answers

    Q:
  • Why do Grip use Colour Herbe, permanent hair colour?
  • Colour Herbe, the permanent hair colour used at Grip, contains no ammonia which results in a safer, more pleasant environment for the clients and the salon staff.

Instead of ammonia, Colour Herbe utilises plant-based alkalines such as Cinchona which have a ph level of not more than 8.5.

This results in no structural damage to the hair shaft and also means that the cuticle can be reclosed once the artificial pigments have been deposited. This is important because by closing the cuticle the pigments become properly trapped resulting in far less colour fade, the hair feels softer to the touch and looks shinier.

  • Back to Top » Q:
  • I have grey resistant hair, will your colours give full coverage?
  • Yes our colours will not only cover resistant grey, they will do it in a natural way.

  • Back to Top » Q:
  • I am pregnant and intend to breast feed. Are your colours safe during this time?
  • Health care professionals often advise against hair colouring during pregnancy or breast feeding. Our colours are the most gentle that we could find on the market so if you choose to colour your hair, we would not recommend anything else!

  • Back to Top » Q:
  • I have always found that ammonia based hair colours create a block of colour which looks dull and lifeless. How does your colour look?
  • Due to the lack of ammonia and high levels of peroxide, our permanent and semi permanent colours give natural multi tonal results.

  • Back to Top » Q:
  • Do your colours contain peroxide?
  • Yes our permanent and semi permanent range does, but in very low strengths, Hydrogen Peroxide (H2O2) is totally natural and is mixed with permanent tints in order to oxidise the colour pigments. During the colouring process the H2O2 breaks down into water and oxygen, with the oxygen expanding the colour pigments thus trapping them inside the hair.

  • Back to Top » Q:
  • I have just finished a course of chemotherapy, can I colour my hair with your products?
  • Always consult with your doctor first. Generally it is recommended you wait 3 months before you start colouring the hair after chemotherapy, some pharmaceuticals may hamper the effectiveness of the colours.

  • Back to Top » Q:
  • Do you stock a sulphate free hair and skin care range?
  • Yes, we stock John Masters skin and hair care which is not only sulphate, paraben, petro-chemical and artificial fragrance free, but uses all organic ingredients (and is based around aromatherapy so it smells divine).
